COP26: European Climate Ambition Summit

Apr 13 2021, 09:00 UTC - Apr 13 2021, 10:30 UTC

This webinar will be part of a series of meetings held that will enable businesses to showcase their progress towards, and commitments to, net zero.

The webinar will provide an overview of the following campaigns.

•    Business Ambition for 1.5C - Businesses have an important role in galvanising ambitious climate action and demonstrating that net zero is the growth story of the future. The COP26 President Alok Sharma is calling on businesses to set net zero targets which have a robust short term decarbonisation plan and cover both direct and indirect emissions through signing the Business Ambition for 1.5C commitment. By signing this commitment, your business will join the Race to Zero, the largest ever alliance committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest.

•    RE100 - To meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, the global transition to clean power needs to progress four times faster than at present. The shift to renewable energy is an opportunity for businesses as renewables are becoming increasingly competitive. As part of the Energy Transitions Action Area, the COP26 President Alok Sharma is encouraging businesses to commit to 100% renewable sources by 2050 at the latest by joining this initiative.

•    EV100 - To meet the goals of the Paris agreement, there needs to be a rapid global shift to zero emission vehicles. The opportunities go beyond climate change mitigation – a zero emissions future means cleaner air, improved energy security, opportunities for electricity grid optimisation and new economic opportunities. The COP26 President Alok Sharma is encouraging businesses to commit to making your directly owned or leased corporate fleet 100% electric by 2030 by joining this initiative.

•    EP100 – Energy productivity is the ratio of economic output to energy consumption. By implementing efficiency measures, EP100 members improve their energy productivity and get more bang for their buck - while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Smarter energy use helps to reduce primary energy demand and accelerate the uptake of more efficient technologies and practices. Research by the Internal Energy Association suggests this will add as much as US$18 trillion to global GDP by 2035. Business actions include working towards net zero carbon buildings, upgrading equipment, digitalising systems, and changing operational behaviour.
