Mato Grosso has prioritised 12 mitigation actions for its decarbonisation pathway, based off the state government's emission targets.
The priority actions focus mainly on two sectors: forestry and land use, and agriculture.
Forest management is a key priority. Actions will be implemented to protect and recover degraded forest land, for example through commercial reforestations. The most significant forecasted emissions reduction will occur in the forestry and land use sector.
Actions within the agriculture sector include increasing agriculture efficiency and incentivising sustainable farming practices.
Implementing these actions is expected to avoid 236 million tonnes of emissions by 2030, and 373 million tonnes by 2050.
